Martin Cook

Cook, Martin
President

Martin was elected to the board in 2018 to complete a partial term ending December 2020. He was re-elected in 2020 to a six-year term ending December 31st, 2026. He served as board treasurer during his first two years on the board.

Martin and his wife Chris have lived in the Memphis School district for thirty years and have two daughters Alyssa (2016) and Grace (2019) both of whom attended Memphis Schools from Kindergarten through graduation, completed Blue Water Middle College and went on to pursue their bachelor’s degrees at Northern Michigan University. Martin holds a degree from a French culinary school where he studied under a starred Michelin chef. He is a member of the Memphis Fire Department and has served in various capacities over the last thirteen years including Captain, Assistant Chief and Chief. Martin serves on the board of Elders at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Memphis as well as the Games Committee for Special Olympics Michigan where he has volunteered for 40 years. He volunteers for anything the music program needs and has chaperoned two Disney trips for Mr. Eash and our fantastic music students.

He is employed as President of Huntington and Wesch Cleaners and CRDN of Michigan and Northwest Ohio a leading cleaning and restoration company specializing in textile, electronics and art restoration.

His family enjoys spending time with their horses on their farm and spending time travelling in and out of Michigan. His hobbies include hunting both in St. Clair County and in the Marquette area where the family has property. The Cooks are blessed to be part of the Memphis community and have a great love for our school system, its teachers and students.

Nancy Thomson

Vice-President

Nancy was elected to the Board in 2020 to a six-year term and her term expires December 31, 2026.

Nancy retired from Memphis Community Schools in 2018 after working for the district for 40 years in the capacity of special education teacher, elementary principal and superintendent.

Nancy and her husband Larry have been married for 39 years. Her husband also served as a member of the Memphis Board of Education. Two of their children attended Memphis. Paul went on to earn a degree in Mechanical Engineering, working as a project superintendent in construction. Joshua received his Doctorate degree in Microbiology and Immunology and now teaches at University of Detroit Mercy. Two of their grandchildren attend Memphis.

Nancy enjoys camping, reading, gardening, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. She is involved with AYSO soccer, CMH and Memphis Lions Club.

Nancy is a graduate of Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. She went on to Oakland University where she earned her Master of Arts in Education.

Karyn McCue

Secretary

Karyn has served on the board since 2004, was re-elected in November 2022 to a six-year term, expiring December 31, 2028.

Karyn and her husband, Rod, have three daughters who all graduated from Memphis, seven grandchildren, two of whom attend Memphis. She is a partner & bookkeeper of Winn Heritage Farms, LLC, (the barns with Winn on them). Community involvement: Treasurer of Blue Water Pregnancy Care Center in Port Huron, Board member of St. Clair/Macomb Farm Service Agency in Wadhams. Member, Assistant Treasurer, and Children's Church teacher at Columbus Baptist Church. Hobbies: Travel (overseas and with family), Gardening (herb and perennial), Estate Sales, Sunday dinners with family, watching grandchildren, and driving tractor.

Karyn is a graduate of SC4, with an Associate in Liberal Arts.

Susan Durst

Treasurer

Susan was re-elected in November 2022 to a two-year term ending December 31, 2024.

Susan has 2 daughters, Kristine and Kimberly, as well as 4 grandsons, 3 of which have graduated from Memphis and one grandson currently attending Memphis High School. Additionally, she has 4 great grandchildren attending Memphis Schools. The family has been very active in Memphis Athletic Boosters, Project Graduation and assorted other school activities. Susan has been a registered voter and Richmond Twp. resident for 24 years.

Susan retired from McLaren Macomb Hospital as CNO/Vice President of nursing and Ancillary Services. She was involved in EMS at the local, county and state level. She was the administrator for the development of the Trauma Program at McLaren Macomb, the first Level II Trauma Center designation by the State of Michigan in Macomb County.

Susan enjoys traveling with family and friends throughout the U.S., camping, reading, cooking and H.S. sports.

Susan graduated from Harper Hospital School of Nursing, received a Bachelor of Science in Allied Health from Siena Heights University, and a Master of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University.

Susan is excited to be a member of the Memphis Board of Education and looks forward to the continued success of the district.

Amanda Bobcean

Amanda was re-elected in November 2022 to a six-year term ending December 31, 2028.

Amanda was a graduate of the Class of 2003, along with her husband Josh. She is the 4th generation of her family to graduate from the Memphis school system. She lives in Riley Township with her husband, Josh and their two children Ella (Class of 2029) and Beau (Class of 2033). Amanda is an active member of the Free Methodist Church in Memphis. She is also heavily involved in the youth athletic program and has coached T-ball, softball, and soccer. Amanda enjoys sports, hunting, traveling, baking, sewing, and Disney vacations.

Amanda has a Bachelor of Nursing degree from Oakland University, as well as a Bachelor of Exercise Physiology from Central Michigan University. She is currently employed as a Registered Nurse in the emergency department for Ascension Health System.

Leslie Rosenow

Trustee

Leslie was elected to the board in 2020 to a four-year term and her term expires December 31, 2024.

Leslie and her husband Michael built their home 14 years ago in Wales Township. They have triplets which are in the Class of 2027. Daniel, Natalie, and Patrick have attended Memphis Community Schools since Pre-school. From the start of their attendance, Leslie became involved in many volunteer organizations affiliated with the school and/or students.

She has been a Memphis Community Schools employee serving in the capacity of a Para-Pro, a substitute lunch aide, playground aide, and office secretary. Over the years she has volunteered numerous hours in classrooms, the library, helping with PBIS and with the Elementary Parents Club.

Leslie's extracurricular activities include starting and currently leading, Memphis Girl Scout Troop 75062 and previously working with Memphis Cub Scout Pack 245. Her children are involved in Scouting, soccer, baseball, softball, and cross country. In her spare time, she enjoys camping, hiking, gardening, cooking, baking, and spending quality time with her family and friends.

Leslie has a strong background in management and administration, leadership, creative and problem-solving skills, and communication. Vocational classes helped Leslie to obtain success in career goals, hands on experience, successful management, and personal fulfillment. Her life skills have helped her to go above and beyond when necessary and her actions prove that she is a very willing, dedicated, and passionate leader.

Lisa Drewek

Lisa was appointed in 2021 by the Board to fill a partial term and elected in November 2022 to fill a six-year term, expiring December 31, 2028.

Lisa and her husband Robert have lived in Memphis School District for the last 26 years. They currently reside in Riley Township. They have 2 daughters, Ella (Class of 2022) and Anna (Class of 2029) who have attended Memphis Community School since Pre-school. Lisa has been involved in many volunteer organizations in the Memphis School District such as Box Tops for Education, volunteering numerous hours in the classrooms, field day activities, yearly winter carnival, athletic events, Co-Sponsor for the class of 2022 and other assorted activities. Lisa and Robert volunteered numerous hours and monetary donations to support the start of the first Memphis Jr/Sr High School Store founded by their daughter, Ella and another Memphis Class of 2022 Student, in which has been a success.

Lisa's extracurricular activities include volunteering in the community, knitting, boating, camping, traveling and most important, spending quality time with her family and friends.

Lisa has an Associate Degree in Nursing and is currently pursuing her BSN. Her specialties include Complex Case Management, Diabetes Education, Emergency Room Nursing and Intensive Care. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Baker College, Clinton Twp. in 2006 and is looking forward to advancing her career.

Lisa is excited to be a member of the Memphis Schools Board of Education and looks forward to the continued success of the district.

Bowerson, Alessondra
Student Representative

Allie has gone to Memphis her entire life. She will be graduating this year with the class of 2024. During her time at Memphis, she has been a part of Varsity Softball, Varsity Basketball, Varsity Track, mock trial, S4SD, student council, and honors society. She is her class president and vice president of the honors society. She intends to go on to college and study engineering. Allie enjoys the tight-knit feeling between the city of Memphis and her school and is grateful for the opportunities Memphis offers its students.

Allie chose to be a student representative to provide a voice for her student body. She happily acts as the link between her classmates and the School Board.

Morgan Brown

Student Representative

Morgan is a Junior at Memphis Jr/Sr High School. She plays basketball, softball, and cross country. In her spare time, she shows animals at the Armada Fair for 4-H. She enjoys spending time watching football and baseball.

Morgan's plans for the future are going to Hillsdale where she will study to be a criminal lawyer. She wanted to be a student representative because she wants to make the student voices heard.

Carter Long

Student Representative

Carter Is a junior at Memphis Jr/Sr High school. He plays a variety of sports such as varsity football, varsity basketball, varsity wrestling, and varsity baseball. He enjoys spending his time outdoors or with friends and family.

After high school Carter plans on pursuing a Business/Marketing degree with Michigan State University to hopefully one day go into sports marketing. Carter wanted to be a student representative so that he could take part in making positive changes for the student body. His wish is that the changes we can make now will better students for years to come.
